Welcome to the Island Erosion website. Island Erosion is a private non-profit group organized by British Virgin Islanders to address the severe and increasing impacts of erosion and sedimentation on the coastal environments of the BVI. It was established at the end of 2001.
The mission of Island Erosion is:
“To promote best practice in the planning and implementation of construction projects in the Caribbean in order to minimise erosion and its subsequent damage to the terrestrial and marine environments.”
The object of Island Erosion is to establish a forum to actively promote best management practice with the goal of reducing sediment run-off and improving erosion control for the small drier islands of the Eastern Caribbean.
This website intends to provide information on how to better manage water, erosion and sedimentation on development sites. This is the first edition of the Island Erosion website. For more information of our intentions for these pages and how future phases of the website are being planned
